I did a research assignment on social media cases because I wasn’t sure about what kind of law I want to explore in ISM, but I’ve decided to go with what I intend on pursuing in the future. I wanted an opportunity to look into another field, but my research has felt random and flat. I feel as if it would benefit me to just focus on my particular field of interest. That way it will also be easier for me to find research articles and write about them. Even though I switched focus, the social media case research I did was interesting and I think it’s something that I’d like to keep up with. Social media companies are being sued for possibly intentionally harming teenagers with their algorithms and systems. This impacts a large group of people because a majority of the population uses social media. If these cases make it far, then it could mean major changes for these social media sites. It could result in the elimination of certain types of social medias as well. I think it’s important to follow these kinds of cases because any outcome could impact a lot more than people realize.
