This week I read about the Colombia v Peru Asylum case. I chose this case specifically because I wanted to find a case that was decided in the International Court of Justice. I visited the United Nations in New York this summer and since then I’ve been sure about my interest in international affairs. I will definitely look into more ICJ cases in the upcoming weeks, but I need to research international legal terms. I have experience learning about many kinds of law, but I haven’t been able to look too into international cases because I haven’t taken a class that has offered it. Hopefully, I will be able to take a class on it next year. I will definitely learn a lot in ISM, but there will still be so much to learn when the year is over. It’s difficult to read about things when you only have an introductory level to the topic and this case specifically was just confusing. It was a good challenge, but in the future I will choose cases that are easier to comprehend as a beginner. I’m looking forward to learning more things about the ICJ and international legal issues either way.
